I think the meteor theory is flawed, for one, it relys on the idea dinosaurs were cold-blooded.

Simple. Ian thoguth they were the parents, and Sarah confirmed it.

Spinosaurus and Giganotosaurus were both slightly larger, but they weren't as heavily built, which means T-Rex had a sturdier, more powerful physique. Which makes sense considering it had to hunt some of the most heavily armoured prey of theage.
