I hate that damnable typecast Hannibal Lecter has left on my favourite actor. Yes, just to type-cast, I love the movies except for Hannibal, which was an insult to my intelligence. The book was much better.

I personally thought Hannibal was great - and an improvement over the novel. Any movie with subtext so deep is great in my book.<br /><br />Naomi Watts? Good suggestion, and maybe within Universal's price range. She could even be a believeable paleontologist. Well, at least as believeable as Laura Dern as Ellie Sattler. Thomas Jane is also an actor I like - but would he take anything less than a leading role? I can't really see him as a supporting character. Colin Ferrel is one of my favorite actors, but I have to admit that he's probably too young or too scrawny to play a real meaningful part. Although, I wouldn't mind seeing him; and wouldn't count him out since he's already been part of a Spielberg production and could be part of Universal's box office draw.

I found Hannibal incredibly boring. The book had more exitement. Also, unlike the movie, the book's main concern wasn't to get you hoping for Clarice her safety, but to allow you to see from Lecter's point of view. Instead of Lecter getting into your mind, you're tempted to go into his mind. Also, am I the only one who thinks Hannibal wasn't that gory at all? The only part that was slightly bloody was the Boar Attack.<br /><br />If there is a bad-ass mercenary role: Wesley Snipes.

The only scene I personally wouldn't have changed in that film concerning the violence is the ending - there's no way you can get around cutting someone's head open and eating part of their brain, and I think Scott very boldly tackled it. As for the boars - I would have found a way around that scene completely. I find it out of place and rather over the top.

I'd also like to put Famke Janson (GoldenEye, X-Men) up, who is an actress I've been particularly interested in since her break out performance in GoldenEye.
