Nagisa, you're right about the spino being a cheap attempt of bringing a new vigor into the franchise. But you can't talk about the spino having exaggerated strength, and not even mention the exaggeration of the rex's strength. A rex running 35 miles an hour? Come on!

Ah, true that. But then the only animals the Jurassic Park series has actually gotten right have been the herbivores and the minor carnivores like Ceratosaurus & Compsognathus. Anything in the spotlight gets warped to fit Movie Monster Standards.™pack raptor wrote:But you can't talk about the spino having exaggerated strength, and not even mention the exaggeration of the rex's strength. The T.rex was given a speed boost, enabling bursts of 32 miles per hour where the real animal could only conceivably reach 15-20 tops (though that'd still be more than enough to run down most of its prey). It was also given poor eyesight where scientific study indicates it was capable of much better.
The Velociraptors were more than doubled (tripled?) in size and their intelligence & looks get makeovers in every film.
The Dilophosaurus was given a frill and venom. Also, assuming that was an adult, it was scaled down drastically from its actual size.
The Spinosaurus was given a nasty, unnatural attitude, increased jaw strength, all sorts of mental & physical augmentations that really didn't even make it a Spinosaur anymore. Just Devlin-Emmerich's Godzilla in a Spinosaurus costume.

but that's what alot of people want, monster dinosaurs instead of happy little weak dinos.Nagisa wrote:The Spinosaurus was given a nasty, unnatural attitude, increased jaw strength, all sorts of mental & physical augmentations that really didn't even make it a Spinosaur anymore. Would you like a film to just have dinos being kind to humans? OR show what humans deserve by monster dinos? Grant said it himself in the 3rd film, that Jurassic Park only created Theme Park Monsters, not the real deal.
You fail to see the most obvious option of all: dinosaurs portrayed as actual animals. Acting as they would in nature. They don't have to be weak and they don't have to be monsters. The ideal is to see a Jurassic Park where the animals behave as if they just stepped out of Walking with Dinosaurs, not the Sci-Fi Channel movie of the week like they're beginning to lean towards.Aquatic_Spinosaurus wrote:Would you like a film to just have dinos being kind to humans? It's perfectly possible to have a suspenseful animal run-amok with realistic behaviour. A Spinosaurus aegyptiacus stalking small man-sized prey along a riverbank could be terrifying enough without turning the poor creature into a fifty-five foot long CUJO. The T.rex/Ford Explorer sequence in the first film? That could still work; a seven-ton carnivore being fed thirty-pound goats every day is likely going to attack an SUV to both (A) see if it's a viable food option given how it's never seen this strange moving thing before, and (B) get at the definite food sources holed up inside.

Nagisa, I agree with you, it's best to portray the animals in a realistic manner. The spino's size wasn't that exaggerated, at least according to Jack Horner on the behind-the-scenes featurette on the dvd. He said that the largest spino skeleton was about 60 feet long, the spino was about 50 feet long in JP3 right? So it's size wasn't too ridiculous. Also, you said in one of your posts that the rex vs. spino scene had no motivation (though it was unnecesary) the spino could have attacked the rex to get new territory, or out of hunger and desperation for a meal. That happens in the wild, I know that the spino and rex never lived at the same time, but if they were genetically engineered in a park they may run into each other.

Thing is, the rex shouldn't have moved away from its kill to begin with. It had a meal, it already scared Grant & the others off, it had no need to chase them any further. Thus the rex and Spinosaur shouldn't have even run across each other.

By the rumors that I've heard, the new main dinosaur sounds like T-Rex to me, I heard it back in jpaftermath awhile back...I'm not setting my life on this, it's still just a rumor. Anyhow, one thing first, Nagisa, I disagree with the speed factor of T-Rex being only 15-20mph, I believe T-Rex was equivelant to the speed of an elephant which can range from 22-27mph. I'm not going to go into a huge debate why I believe this, it's just to me that after numerous studies, we've learned that T-Rex had the most advanced legs of any known giant theropod dinosaur to date, then if it was calculated at only 15-20mph...then Giganotosaurus would've been a 5-10mph creature, again, I'm not trying to debate, I'm just saying what I believe. I still do say that the T-Rex going at 32 mph is exaggerated, unless someone is able to clone a T-Rex and actually clock it's speed.
Oh, as for what dinosaur, I really wouldn't mind having the T-Rex back, and "IF" they where going to have another battle between two titans, then it should have a very reasonable reason behind it. For example a Spinosaurus walks on a mother Tyrannosaurus Rex and her infant, since the Spino is too "Lust killing frenzy" it ignores the mother Tyrannosaurus Rexes warning calls, allowing for a brutal attack, this would actually make it plausible, and reasonable as their would be a reason for a fight to happen, however, considering it's HollyWood.
I wouldn't even be the least bit surprised to see them make the Spinosaurus do a sumersault and jump kicking the T-Rex, then having the T-Rex shoot fireballs out of it's mouth at the Spino, while the Spino deflects it with it's reflector than does a Shoryuken to T-Rex, but Rex ends up blocking it, allowing it to do the Shongokusatsu...yes, I am that honest to state this, even though it's sarcasim here, I hope their really isn't any meaningless haps in the movie, but knowing how Hollywood is, and if they plan on using IV only as a money maker, I wouldn't even doubt it'll be anything but meaningless.
