Count me in as one of the few who loved JP3. I thought it had a great pace to it, the CGI was a lot better, and the return of Grant and Ellie was fantastic. I also loved the addition of Billy, since he seemed to add something to Grant's character and interact with him well. I also enjoyed hearing Grant's reaction to what happened in the first movie. Oh, and I liked seeing William H. Macy. Gotta love him.
My only complaints are that I would have liked to see a backstory for Billy, and I would have enjoyed a longer ending with more closure. Everyone hates the ending, I know, but I thought it was ok. It was an easy out, and the writers took it. Oh, well.
Why doesn't anyone (seem to) like JP///?
First post....hey people. Good to join ya.
Anyway.
I'm not going to list any of the reasons why JP/// wasn't good (see exception below)....I definitely see it on a lower level than both JP and TLW, but I have learned to accept it as a JP film. There were a lot of plot holes, it was almost as if the people making it had never even seen TLW, and I know I could have written a better screenplay. But, I've accepted it.
-One problem I haven't seen listed that I feel obligated to say is that Isla Sorna is supposedly 150+ miles from Costa Rica (don't remember exact numbers), and you're saying that little speedboat could've made the trip on one tank of gas AND by noon or early afternoon?
And I'm still not seeing TLW as a horrible film either...I guess it's just a bias as a JP fan. I think a lot of humor was mistakenly placed, especially near the end with the San Diego sequence, but overall it was a good film.
The problem with TLW is that it stayed too much in the JP structure (for example, a t-rex attack on a vehicle at night, in the rain approx. 45-60 min. into the film, which is the starting point of all the chaos).
One problem with JP/// is that is strays too much from the JP structure...if they would have extended the film to 2+ hours, it might have been better. Possibly expanding Ben's role so that we have a few scenes
In the end, I simply see JP/// as the retarded third child that you feel obligated to love just as much as your first two.

I think you have to look at the third film like a small bridge into a HOPEFULLY better finale.
Think of it like the third act that sets the stage for the final. The Spinosaurus introduced as the new bad ass kid on the block, and also introducing the small detail that even though the island is protected people are still going to have interactions with the dinosaurs.
My little light of hope is that, the fourth movie will be a explosive finale. With an awesome plot, great director skills from Spielburg, and the mighty return of the unofficial "main dino-character" the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Maybe something like, the Rex that was killed in the third film was the young one from The Lost World. It would be a real great climax for a big battle between the female Rex and the Spinosaurus while our human characters or running around them trying to escape or something. And on the verge of defeat for the female Rex, her mate the Bull Tyrannosaur comes into the ring to exact revenge on the Spino.
Something dramatic that would really add a good punch to the film. Kind of like the ending for the first film, which I loved from when I first saw it as a boy.

did anyone else notice that they left out the classic rings-in-water-from-big-footsteps as a warning of danger? (well except on the Universal logo)
other than that way the carnivores acted like monsters set out to specifically kill the humans. seriously, why would a huge carnivore like that continue to chase these strange little creatures, when it could easily take down a Parasaurolophus or a Corythosaurus? ( the raptors were just after their egg i suppose..but i don't think it's logical that they would go after one or two eggs when they've got about 50) oh and then there's the Pteranodons who could never devour anything larger than salmon who are trying to feed something 4 feet tall to their children.
the multicolored (orange, green, brown, etc.), wrinkled Brachiosaurs...
i still don't understand what they were doing in that lab...
it was too graphic...(that pilot getting toed and then the raptor chewing his ear off...or whatever he did)...compare that to Muldoon getting abushed and having to imagine what the raptor was doing to him behind that bush...
i think there some more but i can't think of it right now because i haven't seen it in a while, i might watch it tomorow...
i accepted JP3 after watching the Special features on the DVD and seeing what really went on in making it, now it's not so bad, i never really disliked it, i was pleased when i came out of the theater. it was only after hearing all the negatives coming from all directions that i started to think about the details. but after seeing both positives and negatives i say it's a good movie

i just watched all three movies in a row and now i say that Jurassic Park III just didn't have the same feel as the first two, and then add the story and script...it just wasn't up to JP standards, what we wanted to expect from a JP film
and after watching the first two it seemed kind of awkward that the Rex would be dethroned so quickly, and have such a small role. and again, the Pteranodons and Spinosaurus were portrayed as monsters. i also should mention that raptors(or any dinosaur) would not go after two eggs. they might exact revenge on who tried to take them if they caught them right there at the nest, but they would not try to get them back. i dunno, the dinosaurs in JP3 seemed kind of evil in a way, definitely dark..as if they were actual villains...and there was basically no herbivore scenes except that short one at the end with the brachiosaurs...they also seem to have destroyed the mystery of the Velociraptors, tried to explain and show you everything, i dunno, it's hard to explain...like now you know how they do things, and that makes them less scary and it's not as menacing in a way
in the first two they didn't show what actually happened to the people who were killed by the Rex or Raptors, that was much cooler and more frightening, u had to imagine what they were doing to those people
however, it wasn't a bad movie even with these things, but if you try to place it with its predecessors, that's when it starts to look inferior, it's like that awkward child trying to live up to the success of its siblings...i feel sorry for it...
still enjoy watching it though

I never liked JP/// that much becuz the storyline. The storyline by itself would've been ok for a random movie but didn't quite seem JPish... I personally think they should've stuck with the line that Alan says about inGen and how the spinosaurus wasn't on their list (the spinosaurus was actually an overgrown suchomimus). If they'd made a story out of that, it might have been better. All this story's about is this kid who gets lost on an island and they go find him and nearly die along the way. It's just not a JP story in my mind.
And the whole thing with the raptors was kinda stupid. "Raptors could've become the dominant species on this planet." /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" /> ......-.-
I hated that the rex died. I was about to scream and go on a rampage. That "spinosaurus" jaw looks like it would be too weak to snap that tyrannosaur's neck.
Anyways... those are my main views on JP///.

The plot of Jp 3 can easily be written down inm a quick dialogue:
"Lets fly over Isla Sorna and look for our kid!"
"Oh No! We've crashed! Run away from the Spinosaurus!"
"Another Dinosaur! Run!"
"Even more Dinosaurs! Run!"
"Dinosaurs that can fly! Get outta here!"
"That damn dinosaur with a fin is back! Escape!"
"A helicopter! We've escpaed!"
*Jp theme Plays*
As you can see, most of the film tends to be running from dinosaurs from one end of the island to the other, making for a pretty poor film.
