A TRUE debate...the wholesome thing that it is, is defined as a calm discussion where two people/or teams discuss a topic by weighing out the pros and cons. NO mud slinging or insults of the person or person's opinion is tolerated; the moderator would end the debate and you would lose. A debate is usually used as a discussion of interpretation and opinions of fact or political issues where there is no fact. Not if primates lived underground for a course of many generations, they'd most likely adapt to the conditions.
