Jurassic Park for DOS

Alright, as you know there have been many games based on Jurassic Park for console systems (Nintendo, Sega, 3DO), but has anyone ever seen the PC version?

Well now you have! A friend of mine, David, sent me the zipped up game for a Dos-PC, but he was unable to get it to work on his Windows-based system. Windows XP (and Windows 9X/NT) allow(ed) 16K per DOS application regardless. A month later, I found a DOS emulator that allowed you to provide the right amount of memory to run this game. Believe it or not I was only 586K for which the game needed to run in DOS.

Okay. Enough of that. Below are the required files & emulator.

Required Files:

Dos-Box for Windows, v 0.62: http://www.jpdatabase.net/db_games/s_jpdos/...2-installer.exe.

Dos-Box for other platforms (Apple, Linux), go here: http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/download.php?main=1

Jurassic Park, v 1.35: http://www.jpdatabase.net/db_games/s_jpdos/jurassic.zip

...Okay, now to get it running...

Extract jurassic.zip to the main drive (or where ever you want) such as C:\jurassic.

Install Dos-Box. Launch Dox-Box.

IMPORTANT: Mount the dictionary with a drive letter...So if you extracted jurassic.zip to C:\jurassic\ and want to use drive letter C - follow this:

Code: Select all

MOUNT C C:\jurassic
Otherwise, follow this general example:

Code: Select all

MOUNT <Insert a Letter A - Y> <Dictionary you are calling here>
Once mounted call up the letter you mounted: EG; C: <Enter>From C:\ (or whatever you are using), Type: jp or JP.EXE <Enter>Now, you're in the game!

If the game runs slow, follow the README for steps on how to increase the speed. Note, if you are running a 1GHz or faster, don’t expect the game to run fast. I know this for a fact since it runs slow on all my Desktops and Laptop. It's in the coding the game sine it was made on a 286-based machine.

The best thing to do is either increase the CPU usage of Dos-Box: Ctrl + F12; (Decreasing CPU usage: Ctrl + F11) - I found running at 5500 Cycles works better on a 1.6GHz Centrino. I have yet to test it on another Pentium or AMD. If you have found a working CPU usage, post a reply.

*or*

Increase Skip Frames: Ctrl + F8 (Decrease Frame Skips: Ctrl + F7)

Well, that’s all! Have fun!

It orginally was made for the Amiga systems.

Really great game. Good info!

For that, there is an FAQ on the official Dos-Box site. It has something to do with non-US standard keyboards.

On the Dos-Box-Site which I've found I can't find anything about that! It is called:
http://gnuwin.epfl.ch/apps/DosBox/de/

Please, could you send me the correct adresse?
By the way: Cool Jurassic Park page!!!!
