So, what do you think the next JP film needs in order to be a a half-way decent sequel to an ailing franchise? Does the film need to reinvent the wheel or simply add a new set of spinner rims? I want to hear your ideas.
I honestly haven't thought much about it myself, but here's a few ideas I have. In my view, let's forget the whole "family crisis solving" in the next JP film. JPIV need not continue the sub-plot trends of the last three films. No more Allen and Ellie, no more divorced/split parents, and no more annoying kids bent on extended camping trips to Universal's back lot just to get attention. We need to see a non-island based main plot. We need to see a couple cameos of original JP cast, but only in logical circumstance that deepens the story (i.e. not going over to Malcolm's house for tea and cookies just for shits 'n giggles and a nostalgic feel). We also need to see a black man survive to see the end credits as a main character for once.
And ninjas. We need ninjas.

(Joking about the ninjas.)

I agree with just about everything you said in your 2nd. paragraph. It's about time that the Jurassic Park franchise gets off the islands. I sure won't care about seeing JPIV if it set on Isla Sorna. So I'm sure that the public won't be very enthusiastic about it either. They need to start from scratch. Michael Chrichton, David Koepp, and Spielberg don't give a crap about these films anymore, so Universal might as well bring in a new creative staff.
I'm sick of brainy paleontologists starring in these movies. If the writers decide to let Grant and Malcolm sit this one out then I don't want to see some lame substitute characters filling their spots and lecturing all the other characters. I would love to see some unlucky schmuck with no family ties get caught in the middle of the chaos, just to mix things up a bit.

A hobo dies in an animal attack.
The police department is sent to investigate.
They find a bunch of dinosaurs.
Anyone? Huh? HUH? /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> But seriously, taking the entire movie a different direction might work. I like your ideas, even the ninjas.

And they need Joe Dirt.

I don't think bringing them out from the islands is a good idea. You know what sh*tstorm the ending of TLW stirred up. Also, if there's going to be new characters they should just fricking use the ones from the novels we didn't see in the three other films. My picks? Jack Thorne and Richard Levine. You do still remember the script I wrote about an year ago? That's the best idea I could create. It should either take place in Central America or an island in Indonesia where, let's assume, another company, like Biosyn, has managed to smuggle captured dinosaurs and is doing experiments with them. Turn over to Jack Thorne, who has been working for the company, not exactly knowing what they were up to, being asked to build field equipment for what they say is "research of the local wildlife". He's providing the latest assortment of electric jeeps when he finds out that the area around their laboratories is mysteriously empty. And that's when the dinosaurs start attacking. Introduce the DX decease. You just got yourself a movie.
Only two new dinosaurs that I'd like to see. An Iguanodon and a Herrerasaurus. Oh, and they really, REALLY must bring back the Dilophosaurus. I mean, heck, why wasn't this thing already in JP///? Come on, it makes a perfect threat! The least thing they could do is bring "da Nedry Killer" back.

Well, I don't want to see a bunch of people running through the streets of San Diego in panic. But I do want to see a set-up similar to that used in modern zombie movies. In which, the cities are deserted and ony a small group of survivors are left to fend for themselves. There's something very eerie about a vacant city. Just imagine the possibilities if Jurassic Park took on a minamalist suspense approach in a city setting. Things could pop out at random, and the filmmakers could really play on the audience's claustrophobia. That would be so scary.
I really don't want to see any character from the TLW novel make an appearance in this film. The cast of the JP:TLW novel was pretty dull if you ask me. So I'm glad that David Koepp left Thorne and Levine out of the script. Levine had the personality of a robot. All he ever did was spew irritating egg-head facts and statistics. I daresay that Levine beats out the Kirbys on my list of the most annoying JP characters. His buddy Thorne wasn't that interesting either, the man was just along for the ride.

How about a vacant Costa Rican town? Heck, it could just as well take place in Corvo Island in the Azores where Biosyn has accidentally released it's dinosaurs, emptying it's town from the few people that live there, resulting to the same type of zombie flick style.
As for Thorne, I think he could be made more interesting. Not sure about Levine, even though he has a central part in my latest script where I made him less whiny. I also decided to continue writing one of my older ones that includes Alan and Tim.

High all,
Personally, I believe that the islands have been milked dry. Jp4 will not revolutionize anything if it plays out on one of the islands (Unless they've got some 'shockingly' good story idea /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> ). My location choice for the 4th movie would have to be Costa Rica. Don't bring JP to a city or town, keep it in the jungle! It just wouldn't feel like JP if it wasn't set in one. And as for characters... I vote for the return of Tim and Grant with the addition of some new characters. Oh yeah, and no kids this time!

Why keep it in the jungle? There's not much of a point in changing the setting if the environment's just like Isla Sorna. As far as I'm concerned, this is their last shot with the JP franchise, so Universal should do something brash with it.

Well, I personally feel like JP doesn't work when taken out of its nature setting. Perhaps I should have said 'wilderness' and not jungle in my last post. I really don't care where JP4 is set, just as long as it's in the wild. Sorry, but seeing dinosaurs rampaging through cities and towns is just not my slice of cake. If I want to see that I'll watch Godzilla. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
