Well what I don't get is that Bakker was the consultant on the novel and Horner worked on the movie. Whay does Speilberg, who claims to love the T-Rex, use someone like Horner. I personally would like to see Bakker, Sereno, and Currie all take over a the consultants for the next movie. Lizardmen is a very cool and interesting idea, but not fit for the supossedly "Scientifically Accurate" Jurassic Park. Anyone watch that documentary Beyond T-Rex. Horner is the only scientist on that entire show who says anything about T-Rex being a scavenger. It is proven that young Rexes are very adept runners. Besides, a predator only needs to be as fast as his prey. Rex probably hunted mainly Ceratopsians. They can't run all that fast, so Rex wouldn't have to either. Actually I think the Rexes arms are the only real reason Horner believes its a scavenger. He says that these small arms are why it couldn't be a hunter. Then what about the absolutely pathetic arms of Carnotaurus, no way could they be useful. However, Horner has no problem believing that it was an active hunter. Its almost like Horner looks at a few simple features and makes his hypothesis on them, not the whole package. All predators are scavengers at one point or another. Besides scavengers are always small or weak bodied. Rex is neither of these.

There may be bigger predators & there may be heavier predators, but Rex has and always will be the Tyrant Lizard King

Horner is biased against T-rex because he doesn't want anything to get more attention than his precious miasaurs. So I bet he this is just a war campaign against the King to bring down it's status in the publics eyes but I hope by now he's realized it won't happen everyone has grown up with T-rex being the big scary dominant predator and that's probably how it will stay in the publics mind forever cause Tyranosaurus Rex is synonymous with big scary dinosaur in the eyes of the public.

Right on.

Anyway, I don't have that much animosity towards Horner, because by & large he is rather learned in certain, specific paleontological fields. However, when it comes to carnivores, he's dumb as a rock. His theories on T.rex not only fly in the face of what numerous other paleontologists have said about the advanced skull/leg/neck/dental/sensory structures of the animal, but they fly in the face of common sense. NO animal living today, that thrives on the flesh of another animal, is a pure hunter or pure scavenger. By nature, carnivores will seek out the freshest source of meat possible, and you don't get fresher than live meat. However, is the freshest ain't around, and you're stomach's crying out in pain, you'll settle for second best and grab the nearest dead thing. Ergo, all carnivorous animals within the animal kingdom (or at least a solid 90% of them) will BOTH hunt AND scavenge, depending on what's most efficient at the time.

Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and ye perish from the man, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Arise, O Lord; let not man prevail: let the heathen be judged in Thy sight. I shall purify all with a single blow. Mine enemies stand before mine eyes. Who shall mourn for Division XIII? Who shall mourn for the Vatican?"

Hey, Here's DinosaurDNA,

I really hate Jack Horner !!!!!!!!!!! /mad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="mad.gif" /> Just because he said that T-Rex was a scavenger, I just can't believe it.

But I'm curious about he said /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" /> Thinking *How would the Raptors look like, and how come "you must really like the movie"?* /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />

(But the're also good things about Jack Horner, Maiasaurus (Good parents) and bird-related.)

Hello , I'm new to this forum . Well , I'm not actually new ,My name was eotrannus in the old jpdb forums . I really don't belive T-rex was purely a scavenger . People say that T-rex would not have been a hunter because of it's arms . I don't belive that theory because when you look at other meat eating dinosaurs with long arms such as allosaurus and megalosaurus, they were belived to have hunted saurpods, animals bigger both in weight , height and lenth . Since these animals were bigger than them they would have needed extra weapons to help bring down thier prey .
T-rex was bigger either height ,lenth or weight wise than most of it's prey . since it was taller or as tall most prey it would not need to wrestle with it's prey to get it
down or subdue it . All it would basically have to do was lunge down and bite it's prey , which is probably one reason it's head was so reinforced and it's jaws so powerful . Most Paleonotologists belive that predatory dinos would not wrestle with their prey because of fear of injury or death and wasting energy to have it's prey escape . There is even evidence allosaurus and other carnosaurs hunted in packs to kill saurpods so that they would be more sucessful in catcing their prey and reduce the risk of injury to themselves . It would have been more streenuos+ dangerous for a single allosaurus to kill a saurpod by it's self , almost impossible . Bigger carnosaurs may have hunted by themselves but they were belived to have used amush tatics to hunt saurpods . Since their jaws where to weak they were belived to have swong there heads like axes to cut away flesh . They would attack and wait for the saurpod to bleed to death and sucumm to infection . Now ,I ask if a carnovore with long arms, the same weight as T-rex , was belived to use ambush tatics on animals that were bigger and slower than it , why can't T-rex ,
a animal who has strongest jaw muscles and is faster than it's prey use the ambush method with as much sucess if not more than other large meat eaters.

I heard that Jack Horner was offered a small role in JP4. I might shoot myself if he is.
