Both Runaway and Looker were really sad sci-fi thrillers. Westworld didn't even come close to Pursuit and Runaway. Coma and Great Train Robbery weren't that bad. Didn't see the others. Pursuit was a crappy TV-movie.

Producing is a lot different then directing, mind you. Directors come up with ideas, lead people, take concepts into working ideas. Producers make sure that the movie's being made.

And you seem to be missing my point: Crichton hasn't directed any "good" movies in a long, long, time. I doubt he has the talent to direct a huge, special-effects-driven effort.

Hmm, I think he's the only one whop knows the Jurassic Park series. He is best suit to give the fans the truth. we don't need to see a lot of rampages just the sciences like in the book.

How do you figure Crichton knows the JP movie series the best? He had a lot of involvement in the first movie, sure, but the second didn't follow any of his ideas from the novel, and he had no involvement in the third. And why would anyone want to watch a two-hour long discussion of Chaos Theory and technology trying to control nature?

Because its the truth. alcolm should come back to the way he is. Jurassic PArk 3 and The L:ost World of Spielberg aren't JP movies they are wannabes. So Crichton does no more than anyone on the topic

I feel directors get way too much credit for doing so little. Don't get me wrong they should get credit, but not as much credit as people give them. All they do is choose the camera angles and give the actors guidelines on how they want them to perform in certain scene. That doesn't seem that challenging. I think that the writing is more important than the directing. That's a real challenge, actually writing the movie, coming up with a good plot, good character development and dialogue is much harder than coming up with cool camera angles.

....Have you ever made a film, pack raptor? There are some directors that just point and tell people what to do, but the major directors, the most famous ones, are the ones who make the movie theirs. They make it their life, and they do a lot of work. Speilberg, Gibson, Scorscese, Soderbergh, Lucas, Howard, Cameron.. Look at a behind-the-scenes featurette and see how much work they do.

I've made amature shorts. Yes I understand that they do their work and do it well. But don't act like the directors are the sole master minds behind the film. The writers DO come up with the plot, dialogue, and guidelines on some of the action sequences. Since I'm a guy who thinks visually first, then bases a story off of a visual, directing doesn't seem like it's that hard. You can't deny the fact that good writing is a crucial part in how good a movie is. Just as I can't deny that good directing can help make a film better. I just don't feel that directing is as important as the writing. Let's take Tim Burton for example, plenty of people call him a visionary director, but the only reason that people like his style is because he depends on his art director. He's had the same type of art direction for the past decade-and-a-half, he'd be nothing without his art directors. Oh, and I have seen plenty of behind-the-scenes specials.

Forgot to mention this, but you know that writers are the black sheep of HollyWood,they are an important part of the movie-making process but yet no one acknoweledges their contributions. How many of you on this site even know who David Koepp is? Not many I bet.
