I live in the same state, so it was that way for me. I waited longer than most of my friends to get my permit, but oh well. I'm 17 now, been so since January, and I got my license about a month and a half ago. I start behind the wheel on wednesday, so by next wednesday i'll have my license. i'm kind of nervous for the first day of it though lol.
